BioSusana G. Santos is an Assistant Investigator at INEB – Instituto Nacional de Engenharia Biomédica and i3S – Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde, Universidade do Porto (UP). She has a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from ICBAS, UP (G.A.B.B.A. PhD programme), performed in collaboration with IBMC - Instituto de Biologia Molecular e Celular, and School of Life Sciences (SLS), University of Dundee, Scotland, UK. After she worked on dendritic cell activation, at St Andrews University - Medical School, and later became Medical Research Council (MRC) Career Development Fellow, at MRC - Protein Phosphorylation Unit, SLS, Dundee, studying cell signaling within the immune system. She has received two first prizes for research innovation in Portugal, participates regularly in teaching at graduate and post-graduate levels, and in public dissemination of science. Her current research focuses on modulating the communication between immune cells and tissue/stromal cells, aiming to develop new therapeutic strategies for tissue repair/regeneration. She has centered her work on animal models and primary animal and human cells, their extracellular vesicles and the regulatory role of microRNAs, and has been mainly dedicated to osteoarticular applications.
